Folksy Minnie!
The other night at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco, my friend Heejo and I went to see actress Minnie Driver sing at this very small, intimate venue. We loved it!
We both saw in the SF Examiner that she was coming to town and that tickets were only $17 - let's go! We were so curious to see her in person and to hear her croon live. The article said that she sings to keep her sane through all the acting she does and her busy schedule. Apparently, she is with a mystery man who lives up in Mill Valley here in the Bay Area; he lives by the ocean and that is where she wrote the majority of her new album "Seastories". How sweet.
So, we show up, tolerated the two opening acts and edged our way close to the stage. We were right in front of her! She wore a cute denim strappy top, longish white flowy cotton skirt and boots, curly hair flowing and make-up done simply and tastefully. Hello, Minnie! What a voice! And she danced so cutely to her tunes in such a free-spirited way - her personality showed through as she played off the crowd, especially a bunch of slightly drunk men standing behind us who kept yelling, "I love you, Minnie!!" She smiled, blushed and laughed, such a contagious giddy energy.
We absolutely enjoyed ourselves, loved every minute! After it was all done, she came off stage, chatted with a couple friends and sweetly kissed her honey. Heejo and I sighed, "Awwww...so sweet" - they really looked like they are in love! Yay, good for her!
An absolutely joyful event this was, spontaneous and memory-filled. We love you, Minnie! Sing, sing on!
Beloved - by Minnie Driver
The late light of the desert made
The mountains a silhouette
As curved as a woman's side
As far off as I feel inside
This gravity that used to feel like fear
Pulls me to a new conclusion
The light of you is the weight that keeps me here
I wake up with my soul on fire
I'm swimming in my heart's desire not
Drowning in somebody's wake, not
Smiling for somebody's sake
Why don't you just stay here in the sun
Beats me why you disappear honey
Ain't I your beloved one
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
I see you blue eyed old and grey still
Up all night 'til break of day.
You dance me across the kitchen floor,
You still got one eye on the door.
How you love me with,
Them halfway eyes.
And when I think there's nothing left
I think of love and all the time it buys.
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
The late light of the desert made
The mountains a silhouette
As curved as a woman's side,
As far off as I feel inside.
The battle was hard fought but nobody won,
I'll be your magnetic north baby,
You be my beloved one.
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
My beloved, my beloved, my beloved one
